Health Informatics is an interdisciplinary field that combines computer science, engineering, information management, biostatistics and mathematics along with dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and health sciences. Understanding and exploring these different disciplines requires both conceptual and practical background knowledge. The dissemination of Health Informatics is considered as an important factor in solving complex problems such as treatment of diseases, protection of health, health sciences and education, drug research, clinical/medical decision making and restoring health.

Computer systems and technologies; It is increasingly important in modern health practices, effective management and education, and drug and clinical research. In order to meet the need for well-trained researchers, trainers, biomedical managers and informatics trainers, graduate education is given in the Department of Health Informatics of the Institute of Informatics. The training is carried out with the Distance Education system, taking into account the work status of the employees in the health sector.

Although the word Health Informatics directly evokes information technologies used in the field of Medicine, it is actually as old as the physician who first transferred the patient's records to paper. The word informatics is derived by combining the words information and communication, and it expresses the circulation and sharing of information in a meaningful format. According to J.H van Bemmel, Medical Informatics “is located at an intersection cluster between computer science and different medical disciplines”. In this context, it is possible to associate Health Informatics with all processes of production, collection, evaluation, analysis, storage, processing, presentation and archiving of information in the field of medicine. Medical Informatics is the highest level of today's computer and communication technology in an interactive way with different branches of science for the effective and effective use of information (data, information, knowledge) in the field of medicine, dissemination, analysis and management of this information in a way that allows for new structures. intended to be used. Located at the intersection of information technologies and health sciences, medical informatics has played a role in theoretical and applied education as well as in various medical research and development issues.
