About the Department Academic Staff Courses

Informatics; It is the science that is used in communication in technical, economic and social fields and envisages the regular processing of all kinds of information and data, especially through electronic devices. Information systems encompass all technologies, including communications and computers, that are used to collect, process, store information, transmit it from one place to another via networks and make it available to users. Information technology is a concept used for all information services that can be connected with communication and computer systems. In other words, this concept should not be limited to computer hardware and software only. Within the scope of information technology, the following 4 basic categories can be mentioned:

  • Software
  • Services
  • Equipment

It is thought that "informatics" and "computer" express the same concept. But there are differences between them. Computer is just one of the technological tools used for informatics. Some of the differences between informatics and computer-related sciences can be expressed as follows;

  • Informatics is formed by the combination of many structures. One of these structures is the computer. Informatics has an interdisciplinary structure. It includes multiple branches of science such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer-based systems, Electronics.
  • Information systems are problem solving oriented. It provides the development of practical thinking and quick decision making in the student.
  • It prioritizes not only program development but also its design and creates the system.
  • It is not only application-based, but also includes theory and allows it to be carried out in harmony.

In information systems, the system has a life cycle. In short, we can call this the System life cycle. All information systems; It goes through the stages of planning, requirements analysis, design, construction and use and maintenance. The iterations between these stages vary depending on the development method used.

Some systems that can be defined as information systems are as follows;

  • Data processing and calculators used in companies and offices,
  • insulated metal and cable products,
  • Electronic valve and tube products and other electronic parts,
  • Products related to television and radio transmitters, telephone and telegraph line devices,
  • Television and radio receiver products, audio and video recorders, duplicators and auxiliary products,
  • Other than industrial process tools, measurement, control, testing, routing etc. products of tools and devices used for purposes,
  • Products related to industrial process control tools, services related to information technologies,
  • Wholesale and supply of machinery and equipment,
  • Rental of workplace machinery and information processing equipment, including computers,
  • Telecommunication,
  • Computer and related services.

Some of the duties that the graduates in Information Systems, with the approval of the relevant institution / organization, can perform are as follows;

  • Specialist and assistant specialist in the field of telecommunications
  • system designer
  • IT specialist or assistant specialist
  • supply manager
  • Academician network operator
  • Programmer (Website or Program designer)
  • Database manager
